“What do you mean your not coming?” Nick exploded at his boyfriend.
Kevin stood up and walked toward his lover of four years. “Calm down Nicky. I want to rest is all, I’ve been to all the others why does it matter if I go to this one or not?” Kevin said trying to reason with the younger man. He had a good reason for missing the concert that night, just not one he could share with Nick.
“Who are you seeing behind my back Kevin?” Nick demanded.
All of a sudden Kevin spun around and looked hard at his boyfriend. His face was red and blotchy and tears were streaming down his flushed cheeks. Kevin took him into his arms. Nick resisted at first but then he collapsed in a fit of tears against him.
“Who?” Nick croaked out through his tears.
Kevin hugged him tightly to him. “No one baby, no one but you. I don’t want anyone else. I love you; you’re everything to me. What’s gotten into you? Are you that upset I’m not going?” Kevin tried to soothe the blonde but he just pushed away from Kevin.
“You don’t love me! If you did you’d want to be with me and watch me perform rather than sleep with someone else behind my back!” Nick screamed in Kevin’s face.
He grabbed his knapsack off the floor and slammed the door as he left. Kevin collapsed down on the nearest couch. If Nick only knew the reason for not going to the show maybe then he’d be less hostile. He looked at the time and knew he’d better hurry if he wanted to get everything ready for that evening. He grabbed his empty backpack and hurried to gather the things that he’d need to change the rest of their lives.
Kevin’s Point Of View
Kevin smiled secretly as he walked into their hotel room. He had so much to do to make this night perfect; a night to remember. He laid his backpack full of everything he’d need to set the room up on the bed. He checked his watch and took note that he still had three hours before Nick would return from the venue. He’s set up the other part of the surprised earlier after Nick left. He just hoped everything went as planned.
He dumped the contents out and went to work setting the room up. He dimmed the lights and lit coconut and vanilla candles all over the room. He double-checked all the candles to make sure they were away from all other objects. All he needed was a campfire in the middle of his hotel room. He dug around in the backpack to get the clothes he’d picked out for tonight and hung them on the doorknob.
He chuckled softly when he pulled out his teddy bear. It was the bear Nick had gotten him when they’d first started dating. It was adorable and it held more memories than one could imagine. A soft smile decorated his lips as he thought about the years they’d spent together. Sometimes it was hard to believe that they were actually together. It was unimaginable that they’d come this far. He loved Nick with all his heart and soul. He couldn’t imagine himself more in love with anyone else. He could still remember when they both had tried to keep their feelings hidden. He was grateful that Brian had intervened and tricked them into telling each other how they felt. He couldn’t believe he was actually going to propose. They couldn’t get legally married of course, but it would be something special for them to show each other how much they loved one another. He had to make this night perfect.
Kevin picked up a bottle of Vanilla flavored bubble bath up off the bed and carried it to the bathroom. Hopefully if all went well they would be using these items later. He gathered the Trojan Extra Large Condoms and lube and put it in a silk bag that he placed under the bed pillows.
He walked to the window and glance out onto the streets of New York. It was raining and he hoped Nick would be back soon. He had declined going to the concert that night in favor for setting up the room surprise if you hadn’t already guessed. He knew he’d made Nick angry, hell Nick accused him of cheating on him, which Kevin would never do. He hoped all would be forgotten when Nick got back to the hotel room.
He glanced at his watch again for like the billionth time that evening. He had almost an hour left before Nick was due home. He finished getting ready and ran to take a quick shower. He was nervous and he had a feeling he was going to mess everything all up. He’d proposed before, he’d been engaged to Kristin for three months before him and Nick got together, but how he was feeling now was nothing compared to how he felt then. He prayed he was making the right decision. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with Nick. He could only hope Nick felt the same.
Nick’s Point Of View
Nick was in a hurry to get back to the hotel. He’d made a scene when Kevin told him he wasn’t going to the concert. He’d acted like a spoiled jackass. He still couldn’t believe he’d accused Kevin of cheating. He knew he wasn’t but he just felt insecure sometimes. He loved Kevin with all his heart and he sometimes wondered why Kevin was with him.
He knew Kevin had a reason for missing the concert. He figured the older man really was tired. He’d thought about the way he’d acted all throughout the show. He couldn’t wait to get back to the hotel and make everything right with Kevin. He hated not knowing if Kevin was angry with him or not.
Once the cab pulled up at the hotel he rushed to get inside. He stepped out of the cab, paid the driver and hurried inside. Once in the elevator it seemed like it couldn’t move any faster. Something kept telling him he’d screwed up everything with Kevin. He didn’t know what he’d do if Kevin wanted to break up with him. He knew he’d want to break up with him if he’d accused him of cheating. He didn’t know what he’d do without the older man. He never wanted to be without him. He couldn’t function without Kevin by his side.
Finally the elevator reached his floor and he ran for his hotel room. He got the key out of his pocket and quickly opened the door. The room seemed to be dark and his heart sunk. He laid his umbrella down and made his way further into the room. Candles were everywhere. The coconut and vanilla scent assaulted his senses. He called out for Kevin and then felt warm, familiar arms wrap around his waist. He closed his eyes and bathed his self in his lover’s embrace. He fell back against him and immediately began to apologize for his earlier behavior.
“Shhh baby, It’s ok, I’m not mad,” Kevin said soothingly lightly kissing his temple.
Nick smiled widely knowing that everything would be fine. He felt silly for being so concerned that Kevin would leave him. He opened his eyes and noticed the room was set up for something. So this is what Kevin had been doing. He felt like an even bigger jackass for being so angry.
“What’s going on Kevvy?” Nick asked softly.
Kevin smiled secretly. “It’s a surprise for you,” Kevin smiled gently. “I have a whole night planned for us.”
Nick smiled, happy that Kevin had thought nothing of his behavior earlier. He hoped they weren’t going to some cheesy nightclub where girls danced around in g-strings and a tank top. Kevin left the room and returned with a tuxedo in hand a few moments later. It was the first time Nick had saw that Kevin himself was decked out in a tux and he looked damn hot too. Nick felt his baggy jeans become slightly a little smaller. Kevin was the only one who could turn him on with just a look. He didn’t try to hide the new tent in his pants, Kevin was used to it by now. Nick was always horny around Kevin.
“First you have to get dressed,” Kevin said slyly.
The tux certainly aroused Nick’s curiosity among other parts of Nick. Kevin however wouldn’t say anything to give Nick a clue about the surprise that was in store.
Once Nick had gotten cleaned up and dressed Kevin led him downstairs to their rental car. Kevin insisted on driving because he was the one who knew where they were going. The whole ride was silent. Nick and Kevin held hands but it was the only contact between them. Kevin didn’t want to say anything and give away the surprise and Nick didn’t want to make Kevin angry so he just kept quiet. Nick was getting more impatient by the minute and he hoped they got there soon.
They pulled up in front of what looked like an old abandoned building. Nick raised his eyebrows slightly. What could be inside that Kevin wanted him to see he wondered? He went to open his car door but Kevin stopped him taking Nick’s hand in his.
“I need to ask you something before we go in,” Kevin said softly looking into Nick’s eyes as he spoke.
Nick’s stomach started doing somersaults. What did Kevin have to ask him? Maybe he wanted to end their relationship. Nick braced himself for the worst.
“You know I love you right,” Kevin asked gently. Nick took a deep breath waiting to see how Kevin would finish his sentence.
“Will you marry me?”
The question so soft that Nick had to wonder if he’d even heard it. He looked deep into Kevin’s eyes and knew he had. Kevin’s eyes said what Nick heard was true. Kevin’s eyes held his soul. They told Nick everything he needed to know. Kevin actually wanted to marry him. Nick nodded softly.
“Yes, yes I’ll marry you! I love you so much!”
Nick threw his arms around Kevin’s neck and buried his face in his neck. He couldn’t believe this was real. Kevin smiled softly and hugged Nick back. After they let go they slowly got out of the car. Kevin walked around to Nick’s door and helped him out. They walked hand in hand into the old building. Nick gasped softly as he saw all his friends and family seated on one side of the large open room. Kevin’s friends and family were seated on the other side. The room was set up with flower arrangements and lots of candles. Candles were the only lighting in the room. A man holding what looked like a bible stood in the front of the room.
“What is all this?” Nick asked Kevin softly.
‘Our wedding,” He replied softly.
Nick felt his eyes well up with tears, He couldn’t believe Kevin loved him this much to set all this up as a surprise for him. He couldn’t be happier. He never wanted to be without Kevin and now he wouldn’t have to. He loved Kevin more than words could express. Kevin squeezed Nick’s hand gently and motioned for them to start walking toward the center of the room. They walked hand in hand down the aisle Nick trying desperately not to cry, but failing. Everyone was standing them smiles on their faces looking at them with adoring eyes. Once they were in front of the man they turned and faced each other. Kevin smiled softly at Nick. Nick smiled back through the tears that were still falling. The minister began the ceremony.
“Do you Nickolas take this man to be your husband? Do you swear to honor, love and cherish him the rest of your life?
Nick could barely find the words to say. His tears were coming in streams now. Kevin himself was starting to cry as well. Nick couldn’t believe he was finally marrying the man that meant more to him than life itself.
“I do,” Nick managed to choke out.
He squeezed Kevin’s hands tighter and smiled widely through his tears. The minister repeated the same vows to Kevin and he replied as Nick did.
“I now pronounce you married, you may kiss,” The minister announced.
Nick looked at Kevin. He was no longer his boyfriend, but now his husband. The word sounded strange to Nick. It was something he never thought he’d have the chance to call the older man. Kevin wrapped his arms around Nick’s neck and kissed him sweetly. They pulled apart and turned to face their family. Everyone stood and clapped. Nick felt like he was on top of the world. He couldn’t be happier.
Later after they were back in their hotel room and they were resting after another passionate round of lovemaking Kevin let his fear of the wedding out.
“I was afraid you’d say no,” he admitted shyly.
Nick looked at him. “Why Kevvy, I love you.” Nick played with the matching rings on their fingers.
‘I was afraid you weren’t ready and I was going to mess everything up,” Kevin said looking into Nick’s eyes. “I’m glad you did Kevvy, because I love you and I never want to be without you.”
