“Kevin?!”
“Yes Nicky” he replied, closing his eyes and then re opening them, back to his piercing green orbs.
“What? I mean, how? Why? I, I can’t.”
He shook his head, fighting back the tears. “Get out. Just get out” he sobbed, the tears now falling freely.
Nick didn’t sleep for the rest of the night. He just couldn’t understand why Kevin would do that to him. Why didn’t he tell him at the beginning? Why wait this long? And why didn’t he know it had been Kevin. All the questions burned in his mind all night and all the next day. He could sense the others were worried about him, but none of them approached. He spent his spare time alone with his thoughts, trying to make sense of it all. During the show that night, he went through the motions. He played it up to the audience, but avoided Kevin as much as possible.
On the bus that night, he got up after everyone else had gone to bed. He sat cross legged on the sofa at the back of the bus and drifted off in his thoughts again. A couple of hours later, he was startled by another voice.
“Frack?”
He looked up at his best friend and sighed. He’d been waiting for this. He knew Brian wouldn’t just let him bitch all day without wanting to know what was wrong.
“Take a seat Frick” he said. “But you can’t help me this time.”
Brian sat sideways next to him so we was facing him. “Are you sure?” He asked quietly, pushing Nick’s floppy hair out of his face.
Nick turned to look at him. Brian’s blue eyes were sparkling, full of worry and pain. Nick contemplated telling Brian everything, but instead, he burst into tears and fell into Brian’s embrace. Once Nick’s sobs had subsided, Brian lay them both down with Nick curled up in his arms like a lost child.
When the morning came, Nick slipped out of Brian’s arms and went back to his own bunk. He hadn’t slept much at all, but he’d felt safe with Brian, loved. As he lay in his bunk for the rest of the morning, he went through everything in his mind all over again. Just when he had thought his decision was final, Kevin had sprung this on him. When he thought about it harder, it shouldn’t have bothered him really. Before Kevin had revealed himself, he had been willing to give his soul over to a faceless man who he knew nothing about, other than how he fucked. It was damn stupid of him and if Kevin had thought about it, Nick was sure he would have kicked him into the next millennium. So why was it bothering him that it was Kevin? His anal retentive, father figure... He shook his head. No, that wasn’t it. He knew Kev loved him and was only looking out for him. He groaned in frustration, and buried his face further into his pillow, willing sleep to claim his tired body and mind.
He woke up with a start when the bus stopped. From the commotion outside his bunk, he figured they were at the next hotel. Rubbing his sore eyes, he climbed out to grab his bags. Mumbling he was tired to the others, he trudged to his room. Once there, he locked the door and fell onto the bed.
He awoke a few hours later with a clear mind and the weight lifted from his shoulders. Looking at the clock it was 5 p.m.. His cell phone had missed calls and messages flashing at him. Not wanting to speak to anyone, he switched his cell off and ordered food from room service.
* In the hotel restaurant *
“There’s something wrong with Nick and it’s no good ignoring it anymore” Brian said.
“He’ll be fine Brian. I’m sure it’s nothing” Kevin said in between sipping his coffee.
“Don’t pull this shit on me Kev.”
Howie and AJ looked on silently. It was very rare for Brian to cuss, and when he did you knew it was serious.
“I know you know something. I’m not blind Kevin and if you...” His face scrunched up in thought whilst Kevin’s remained expressionless. “You’ve told him haven’t you? Damn it Kevin. How much have you told him?”
“It’ll be fine Brian. I haven’t told him you’re secret so you can chill out.”
“How can you tell me that?” Brian said, the anger clear in his voice.
“Trust me. Now, if you’ll excuse me I have an important call to make.”
Without waiting for a reply, he got up and left, leaving Brian furious and Howie and AJ silent.
The next morning, just before dawn, Nick pulled the blanket off the bed and took it out to the balcony. He curled up on the bench and waited for the sun rise. As the sun began peeking on the skyline, someone joined him. He knew without looking who it was. Over the past months he’d developed a special sense for the older man. They both stayed quiet until Nick could feel the warmth of the morning sun on his skin.
“What are you doing out here so early?” Kevin asked, breaking the silence.
“Watching my last sun rise.”
“Why will it be your last?” Kevin asked, starting to panic. “You’re not going to do anything stupid are you?”
Nick shook his head and turned to face him.
“No, but I thought.... Why didn’t you....?” He said, waving his arms around in the air.
“Why didn’t I disappear into dust you mean?”
“Yeah. And howcome....”
Kevin motioned for Nick to hush, and then sat on the bench next to where Nick was still curled up. “Is it ok if I..?” He said.
Nick nodded, and let Kevin move closer to him. “Things aren’t how you imagine they are Nick. So much has changed since the first of us. We aren’t as different to humans really. Apart from the obvious of course. We are immortal, that much is true. But we can walk around in the sun, I guess you could call us day-walkers.” He chuckled to himself. “Coffins have long gone, and we can survive almost a week without blood, which is still a necessity. You get used to it eventually. Oh, and we are always, always horny.”
Nick laughed, and then blushed at all the memories flashing through his mind.
“It was good, wasn’t it?” Kevin whispered in his ear, his voice dropping and accent thick.
“I want it Kev” Nick said.
“More sex? I’m sure that can be arranged.”
Nick blushed again in total embarrassment. “I didn’t mean that, well I do want that, ohh... I want you forever Kevin. I don’t know why I freaked out. I think I had always hoped and prayed it was you, but deep down I had convinced myself there was no way you’d ever want me. Then when you revealed yourself I just lost it. I didn’t know how to react. I’m sorry, I’ve wasted precious time with you.”
“Don’t ever apologize. We have an eternity of time baby.”
Nick smiled and nodded. After another minutes silence, Nick turned back to Kevin. “When....”
“Tonight. If you’re ready?”
“I’ve been ready since ‘the bathrooms, now.’”
Kevin beamed when Nick quoted their first words in this situation. “One thing though. Why did you tell me your name was Braedon?” “Because that is my vampire name. It means ‘from the dark valley.’ I picked you a name too the day I first lay eyes on you.”
“You did?” Nick asked, his eyes wide.
“Yes. Athan. It’s Greek for immortal. You don’t have to use or keep it. You can choose your own if you’d prefer. There’s plenty of time to....”
Nick cut him off by leaning in close so that their faces were almost touching, breath mingling. “I love it” he whispered before closing the distance and pressing his lips to Kevin’s softly. They stayed like that, both reveling in the emotions. Nick sighed against Kevin’s lips and then pressed them harder, slipping his tongue out to tease his lover’s mouth. Kevin opened his mouth and accepted Nick’s tongue, playing and teasing the blonde too. They broke away after a few minutes, both needing to catch their breath.
“As much as I’d love to stay out here with you baby, there’s some things I have to get in preparation for tonight.”
“Can’t I come with you?” Nick asked, pouting.
“You’ll be cumming plenty tonight babe. But seriously, I think you should spend the rest of the day with the guys. They’ve been worried about you. And besides, it’ll make the day go quicker.”
Nick smiled at him and Kevin’s heart fluttered. “One more question before I leave though.”
“Sure” Nick replied, an eyebrow raised up as Kevin stood before him.
“What colour leather?” Nick’s jaw dropped making Kevin chuckle.
“That is not a good look Nick” he said, pushing his mouth closed. “Now, what colour?”
“Uh, black?” Nick said, not quite sure what is was for. Kevin’s eyes roamed over Nick’s body before meeting his eyes. Nick gasped at the raw look in Kevin’s dark green eyes. “Good choice” he replied, and then he was gone, leaving Nick alone and hard.
